Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is very different from the traditional festivals introduced earlier. This festival has a relatively short history, less than 60 years old, and was founded in 1966 by African-American scholar and social activist Maulana Karenga (Maulana Karenga).
Before the festival was founded in 1965, the Waltz Riots (Watt Riots) occurred in Los Angeles, USA. What happened roughly is that a white police officer arrested a black youth driving while drunk. Because of the violent law enforcement issue, the residents of the Waltz area of Los Angeles (mainly black and Latino residents) were dissatisfied and a series of riots continued. Six days. This is a background for the birth of Kwanzaa.
After the Waltz riots, Kalenga decided to create a festival of their own for African Americans and independent of mainstream American culture. Thus, Kalunga founded Kwanzaa in accordance with the harvest festival celebration tradition of African culture. The name Kwanzaa is derived from the African Swahili "Matuda Ya Kwanza", which means "the first fruit". Karenga added an extra a to the word Kwanza, adding seven letters to the word, which corresponded to the seven days of Kwanzaa.
When Kwanzaa was founded, Kalunga's original intention was to provide African Americans with a grand festival that would replace Christmas, because he felt that Christian culture belonged to white people. But as more and more people celebrated Kwanzaa, Kalunga adjusted his position and believed that Kwanzaa was not opposed to white culture, but was a supplement to the existing festival. Therefore, while celebrating mainstream festivals, people can also celebrate Kwanzaa.
